National Urban League President Responds to State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, DC (January 31, 2018) – National Urban League president and CEO, Marc H. Morial, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s first State of the Union address:

“While encouraged by the President’s polished words and reconciliatory tone, successfully delivering a speech is not the same as effectively governing a country.  Over the past year, we have heard a lot from President Trump, but have seen very little action consistent with the unity and progress he spoke of during last night’s State of the Union address.  

Urban League's Morial: Trump’s Immigration Remarks “APPALLING”

NEW YORK (January 11, 2018) — National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial tonight issued the following statements in response to President Trump’s comments on immigration: 

“President Trump’s crude statement regarding immigration from Haiti and African nations is appalling for its lack of compassion, and stunning for its ignorance about  the contributions of Haitian and African immigrants.

National Urban League President on Federal Court DACA Ruling: It’s Congress’ Turn to Act

WASHINGTON, DC (January 10, 2018) – National Urban League President and CEO, Marc H. Morial, issued the following statement on the San Francisco Federal Court’s decision to block the Trump Administration’s efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, commonly known as DACA: 
 
“A Federal Judge in San Francisco has confirmed what we long knew, that the efforts of this Administration to terminate the promise our country made to more than 800,000 immigrants who came here as children, is wrong.
 

UnidosUS and National Urban League Oppose Nomination of Kenneth Marcus to Lead U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights

WASHINGTON, DC (January 10, 2018) -- UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) and the National Urban League joined today in opposing the nomination of Kenneth L. Marcus as the next Assistant Secretary for the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Education. The groups noted his troubling record with regard to enforcing the rights of immigrant students and English learners, and past attempts to undermine critical policies aimed at remedying racial discrimination, including affirmative action.
