Civil Rights Leaders Meet with Top Senate Democrat

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 11, 2017) – Late yesterday, leaders of the nation’s foremost civil rights organizations--the National Urban League, the National Action Network, the NAACP, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation--met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss the community’s legislative priorities.  After the meeting, each shared the following comments:

WASHINGTON, DC (October 4, 2016) - After a final vote on proposed set-top box rules was pulled from the agenda of last week’s FCC Open Meeting, many questions have been asked about the continuing changes to the proposed rules that are now being negotiated behind closed doors at the FCC.

Civil Rights Leaders Tell the FCC to “Unlock the Plan”

WASHINGTON, DC (October 3, 2016) - In a petition filed today at the FCC, 19 national civil and social rights organizations formally requested that the Commission release the details of its latest proposal for new set-top box rules and allow for public comment.  A final vote on the controversial order – which has changed substantially from an initial proposal published in February -- was pulled from the agenda of yesterday’s FCC Open Meeting after continuing re-writes were reportedly insufficient to address the longstanding concerns of Commissioners.
