National Urban League President Calls on Congress to Put an End to ACA Repeal Efforts

September 26 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (September 26, 2017) – National Urban League President and CEO, Marc H. Morial, issued the following statement today on the Senate’s latest defeat to repeal the Affordable Care Act with the Graham-Cassidy Healthcare Bill:

“The Graham-Cassidy Bill was the worst Obamacare repeal bill that we have seen to date. It included much of the same cruel provisions as all of the failed repeal legislation before it, but would have gone even further by converting state funding to block grants, mandating cuts and caps to Medicaid, and allowing states to rollback insurance regulations.

“While this bill is dead for now, what is alive and well is the dogged determination of some in Congress to fulfill their ideological agenda of repealing the Affordable Care Act, even at the expense of their very own constituents and without objective consideration for its many benefits and need.

“Enough is enough. It is past time for Congress to work together to improve the existing healthcare system and reject any other attempts to make America uninsured again. The lives of rural and urban Americans depend on it.”
