National Urban League President on Federal Court DACA Ruling: It’s Congress’ Turn to Act

January 10 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (January 10, 2018) – National Urban League President and CEO, Marc H. Morial, issued the following statement on the San Francisco Federal Court’s decision to block the Trump Administration’s efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, commonly known as DACA:
“A Federal Judge in San Francisco has confirmed what we long knew, that the efforts of this Administration to terminate the promise our country made to more than 800,000 immigrants who came here as children, is wrong.
“For far too long, Congress has skirted passing commonsense immigration reforms at the expense of hundreds of thousands of children and young adults who are left wondering whether they will be deported back to countries they have never known. This must end today. It’s Congress’ turn to act. Despite the court’s decision, Congress has an obligation to set aside meaningless partisan conflicts and fulfil our commitment as the rightful home to Dreamers.
“The National Urban League urges Congress to work on an agreement that protects these thousands of hardworking, law-abiding people who have only ever called the United States their home.”
