The State of Urban Business 2011: Cities that Lead the Way

Saturday, September 14, 2013

This inaugural edition of the State of Urban Business report features a ranking of some of the top metro areas for black-owned businesses in America. In addition to these rankings, the report also concludes that the growth and success of black-owned businesses is closely tied to their ability to expand their customer base to include other businesses and government agencies, grow revenues, secure capital, and to easily access business training, mentoring and other types of technical assistance. Based on these findings, we present a set of recommendations for growing and strengthening black-owned businesses and highlight a number of Urban League programs and initiatives that are helping to provide much needed technical assistance and financial support of urban businesses.
